Science
Scientists regard sweat as a promising body fluid for diagnostic purposes that even can replace blood.
Sport Physiology scientists found that there is a close correlation between electrolytes in the blood to body gas exchange rates, mainly for Oxygen consumption (VO2) during physical training.
Researchers revealed that there is a correlation between electrolyte levels in human eccrine sweat compared to the ones in the bloodstream. (Nature.com)
Sweat
Sweat represents a readily accessible biological fluid, whose composition includes electrolytes and metabolites which can provide information on the health status and physical condition of individuals.
Real-time tracking of electrolyte concentrations in eccrine sweat can therefore provide important information for biomedical diagnostics, assessing therapeutic interventions and sports performance optimization.
Biodegradable Sensor
YOPI scientific team developed special ion selective membrane electrodes laid on biodegradable sensor that converts the concentration of a specific electrolyte present in the sweat into an electrical potential. The voltage measured is dependent on the logarithm of the ionic concentration, according to the well-known “Nernst equation”.
There are two major challenges to face while developing electrolyte selectivity sensors.
First, you have to ensure accurate measurement of each ion without receiving any noise from traces of other ions for a long period of time.
Second, you have to produce it in reasonable cost.
YOPI development team overcome this challenge by using a range of different technologies to create on one hand a unique membrane and other developing a new production technique to meet this challenge.
YOPI ‘s biodegradable sensor are disposable sensor with live span of tens of hours.
Artificial Intelligent (AI) and Machine learning (ML) Algorithms
YOPI ’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) system includes No. of neural network algorithms learns on one hand the Oxygen consumption (VO2) and carbonate di-oxidate (VCO2) as well as the personal physiology changes mainly cardiovascular health and fitness and recommend accordingly
Application during training
YOPI ’s application was designed so that any person (amateur athlete) could read the data in a simple and understandable way, without using professionals such as doctors and physiologists.
The application gives indications about VO2, VO2peak, RER, Energy Source online and offers training schemes to ensure training efficiency in realtime.
Application at the end of training
At the end of each training the application summarized and analyzed the session and recommend the user on recovery time, future training loads and recommended nutrition.
The user also has the opportunity to consult with YOPI ’s professional team to receive additional support and create personal training programs according to personal physiology.
Accuracy
YOPI ’s monitoring device has been tested and has achieved an accuracy of about 90% compared to the offline standard lab instruments that measure VO2 and VCO2.
